Plans Unveiled to Revitalize, Bring Recreation to Erie's Griswold Park called "Erie Station Square"
Erie’s Station Square unveiled plans Friday to give Erie's historic Union Station and Griswold Park a new look and bring outdoor recreation to the area.
The plans call for streetscape improvements, six pickleball courts, a synthetic ice rink across the street, musical swings in Griswold Park and a LED splash pad.
The Pennsylvania Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) is reviewing the plans. Under its Neighborhood Assistance Program, businesses that invest in the project could receive a tax credit of up to 55 percent.
Logistics Plus is making the initial $100,000 investment in the improvements to the Station Square District. Other businesses supporting the project include Great Lakes Insurance, Kellar's Magic and Comedy Club, Rick Griffith Properties, The Brewerie at Union Station and Lilly Broadcasting.
Ralph Pignataro is one of the masterminds behind this $750,000 project.
He works for Logistics Plus and is the President of the “Erie Station Square” nonprofit.
“I think the biggest thing is offering nontraditional arts and cultural and athletic opportunities, free opportunities for the public that may not otherwise be available,” he said.
Businesses and residents can donate to the project on GoFundMe.
