Wattsburg Area School District Mourns Loss of 2 Students
Wattsburg Area School District is making grief counselors and support staff available after learning from State Police Monday two of its students - identified by the school district Madison and Zachary Zimmer - have passed away, district superintendent Ken Berlin said Tuesday.
"The Wattsburg Area School District and community are deeply saddened by the passing of such wonderful young students and will work with their family to assist them through this difficult time," said Berlin in a statement.
The school district’s crisis response team worked with Northwest Tri-County Intermediate Unit professionals to provide the following support for students and staff:
During summer school, grief counselors and other professionals like school psychologists will be present to assist grieving students.
Professional resources will also be made available to any staff member that is struggling.
Going forward, students that need long term support will have access to counseling through the school’s Student Assistance Program which is staffed with a full-time counseling specialist.
For students that need additional support beyond the school day, the district will assist families in obtaining assistance from community based agencies.
State Police said they discovered the students had passed away after a fire was reported at a Greene Township home Monday.
