U.S. Sen. Bob Casey has unveiled a new bill to address food insecurity throughout the state.

Sen. Casey stopped by the Emmaus Kids Café in Erie on Wednesday to highlight his legislation known as the Five Freedoms for America's Children.

Casey’s plan identifies five basic freedoms that every child needs:

  • Freedom to be Healthy
  • Freedom to be Economically Secure
  • Freedom to Learn
  • Freedom from Hunger
  • Freedom to be Safe from Harm

Casey says the proposal is a comprehensive set of policies that would better the lives of children.

Some of the policies include automatic certifications for school meal programs and expanded free meal service in low and moderate-income schools.

It also calls for the establishment of savings accounts for every child whose parent earns under $100,000 a year.

Sen. Casey hopes to implement the plan within the next three months.
