The man found dead inside a west Erie home early Thursday morning was fatally shot in his bed, according to the Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook.

The victim - identified as Kalvin Davis, 18, of Erie - died from a single gunshot wound to the head. He was pronounced dead at 4:44 a.m. Cook ruled the death as a homicide.

The first calls came in around 4 a.m. for a shooting victim along W. 29th St. between Cherry and Sigsbee St.

Officers found an SUV in the middle of the street with spent shell casings on the ground nearby. Its connection to the victim remains unclear.

Police said they are reviewing several hours worth of surveillance video from the area and interviewing witnesses as part of the investigation.

There's no word on any suspects.
