The man on trial for killing the worker at the Edinboro Wendy's has been found guilty of second-degree murder.

The jury convicted Markese Lampley, 21, after more than an hour of deliberations. He was also found guilt of aggravated assault and attempted robbery.

State Police said Lampley fatally shot Alex Cavanah who was protecting his co-workers during an attempted robbery at the Wendy's location in January 2020.

Prosecutors interviewed a Wendy's employee and played surveillance video from the incident during the trial.

During testimony, Lampley cross-examined witnesses who were inside the restaurant at the time of the shooting.

Expert witnesses - including forensic pathologist Dr. Erie Vey and state police ballistic and forensic experts - also testified.

In an odd twist, the defendant's mother took the stand for the prosecution.

Lampley represented himself.

During a court hearing before the trial, the defendant claimed he is indigenous, and the court does not have jurisdiction over him. The judge rejected that argument.

He also asked the court to address him by the name Mileage Galor Bey.
