Last year, the Tokyo Olympics were moved to 2021 because of the coronavirus. Now, the Japanese government has declared a state of emergency as a result of high coronavirus cases and low vaccination rates.

For Olympians, this means a ban on spectators in the stadium. Athletes competing have voiced their concerns about the ban, but doctors and experts believe this is a step in the right direction.

In Erie County, about 58% of adults are fully vaccinated, while the entire country of Japan is vaccinated at 15%.

Doctors are hoping Japanese government can reduce the impact of the games being held in Japan with this State of Emergency. The State of Emergency details also include a ban on alcohol and a stay-at-home order for Tokyo residents.
