Erie Water Works on Tuesday issued a boil water advisory for customers in parts of Harborcreek Township until further notice.

It's the result of a water main break on Cooper Rd., which has caused a reduction of water pressure east of Shannon Rd.

Water Works has isolated the break, and crews will be making repairs soon.

There is no evidence of contamination in the water system at this time, but the reduction of pressure makes contamination possible, according to Water Works.

Before using water for consumption, food preparation, making ice, washing dishes or brushing teeth, affected customers are asked to bring water to a rolling boil, let it boil for one minute, and let it cool before using; or use bottled water.

The advisory is expected to remain in effect until sometime Thursday, July 29, or later, if necessary, due to required sampling and testing.

Erie Water Works said it is working to notify affected customers by phone.
