As many businesses feel the pinch from the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, a new restaurant has opened its doors in downtown Erie.

Local Eat and Pour is located in the former 1201 Kitchen at 12th and State St. The place has been remodeled with new decor inspired by Erie's history.

On the menu, you can expect a variety of appetizers, salads and sandwiches, along with four entrees that are southern-inspired. All of the dishes are made with locally sourced ingredients.

The former executive chef of The Cork will manage the kitchen.

The restaurant is still trying to get its liquor license, so it's bring-your-own-booze.

While the owners faced several challenges attempting to open during the pandemic, they say the community's support made it possible.

"It's going on about four months during the pandemic and everything else you could live through in those four months, but we love it," said Ellen Innes, owner of Local Eat and Pour. "We have kind of transformed it from the little 1201 Kitchen into a southern-type of atmosphere."

The restaurant will be open Wednesday through Saturday 5-10 p.m.
