Police in Venango County are asking for help from the public to apprehend a fugitive. The fugitive is described as 5 feet tall with a beard.  Franklin Police sent an All Points Bulletin out on its Facebook page accompanied by two pictures and a caption asking 'Anyone Missing a Goat?'   Yes, this fugitive also has four legs and hooves.

"September 7th we got a call saying he was roaming in the area of the 700 block of Grant Street.  Officers had responded and before officers had got there he was gone, says Officer Jaimi Bartlett.

No one knows who owns the goat or from where he came.  That's a mystery.  It is a majestic goat.  It’s something that would stop you in your tracks the moment you see it, especially when it's wandering down a city street.  Pat Karns saw the goat one morning while walking her dog.  She swears the goat is 5 feet tall.

"It was a big goat and he had those big horns that curled and he had a big beard.  When I saw that I thought, 'Well, I'm going to go the other way.”

The Facebook message from the police department is receiving plenty of reaction from people who also have seen the goat.  Some post pictures they've taken of the meandering mammal.  A few have tried to catch it.  One post advises that the goat will keep his distance if you get too close.

"There's been a lot of calls about the goat,” says Officer Bartlett. “We have attempted many times to catch him ourselves.  He's been seen on porches, in yards, everything of the sort.  He's pretty impossible to catch."

An animal rescue expert has been working on the case and also has been unsuccessful in catching the goat.  The expert is now going as far as obtaining two female goats to lure-in the big fella. Catching that goat is almost becoming an obsession for some people in Franklin.  Not all people however.  Pat Karns is keeping her distance.

"I've seen him a couple of times but I don't go too close because I don't know what he would do.  He might head butt me or something,” she said with a laugh.

The goat is still at large, however, it may have left the city limits.   He is now being spotted in a more wooded area outside of town.
