JAMESTOWN – As COVID-19 cases increase in Jamestown, the city school superintendent is reassuring parents about his plan to keep kids in the classroom.

Jamestown Public School Superintendent Dr. Kevin Whitaker gave insight on whether in-person learning will continue in an online video last week.

Dr.Whitaker began the conversation addressing concerns.

“I know that people have seen the recent increase in COVID cases in the county, and that is definitely something we are keeping an eye on as well,” said Whitaker. “As I’ve mentioned before, our goal is to keep kids in school full time for as long as possible because we know that is the best possible case for them.”

Although students will stay in the classroom, students athletics and extracurricular activities will be handled with more caution.

He says if one student athlete tests positive for COVID-19, the Department of Health will quarainteen teams as a precaution until they can determine the vaccination status of those impacted.
