Pennsylvania Reports 7,480 New Coronavirus Cases, 78 More Deaths over Two Days

The Pennsylvania Department of Health is reporting 7,480 new cases of coronavirus (COVID-19) over two days as of midnight Sunday, bringing the statewide total to 1,564,939.

Another two-day report will be released Tuesday, according to the Department of Health.

There are 2,754 people hospitalized with COVID-19 with 653 patients in the intensive care unit.

Between Oct. 20-26, 2020, there were a total of 1,368 COVID-19 cases in school-aged children between 5-18 compared to the same week in 2021, when there were 5,238 cases in the same age group.

Statewide percent positivity for the week of Oct. 22-28 is 8.8 percent.

78 new deaths were reported as of 11:59 p.m. Thursday, increasing the total to 31,455.

As of Sunday, 71.9 percent of Pennsylvanians age 18 and older are fully vaccinated, according to the CDC.

Vaccine providers have administered 13,909,429 total vaccine doses as of Monday, and 6,462,017 people statewide are fully vaccinated.

Erie, Crawford, Warren, Chautauqua and Ashtabula Counties are currently in the high level of community transmission, according to the CDC's map for Oct. 24-30. All but one county in Pennsylvania and Ohio are seeing high transmission, as well as all but six counties in New York.

Masks are required in all Pennsylvania public and private schools, as well as child care facilities. Students, teachers and staff must wear face coverings when inside, regardless of vaccination status.
