Driver Killed in Two-Vehicle Crash in Springfield Township
A driver was killed in a two-vehicle crash in Springfield Township, Erie County, Tuesday morning, according to Pennsylvania State Police.
It was reported on the Interstate 90 westbound off-ramp to State Route 215 around 6:40 a.m.
The driver of a Toyota Highlander SUV was pulling out from the stop sign on the interstate off-ramp to turn south on State Route 215 when the vehicle was hit by a Nissan Sentra car heading northbound, troopers said.
The woman behind the wheel of the car - Janet Batykefer, 75, of Albion - was pronounced dead at the scene. She was not wearing a seatbelt, and there was not airbag deployment, according to State Police. A passenger in the same car - a 51-year-old Albion man - was not taken to the hospital but suffered a possible injury, troopers said.
The 41-year-old Erie woman who was driving the SUV was taken to the hospital to be checked out by a family member, according to State Police.
Both vehicles were towed from the scene. The car suffered severe front-end damage, troopers said.
State Route 215 and the off-ramp were closed for approximately four hours.
