Man Charged in Death of Woman who Moved from Erie to Florida
Tampa Police have charged a man for the death of a woman who moved from Erie to Florida in 2020, the police department's interim chief announced Wednesday.
Robert Kessler, 69, of Lutz, Fla., was arrested for the murder of Stephanie Crone-Overholts, 47. He is being charged second-degree murder and abuse of a dead body.
Kessler was already in custody on a drug charge not connected to the case.
Overholts was living with Kessler before her disappearance, according to police. She reportedly met Kessler at a fast food restaurant and told him she lived in her car before Kessler invited her to move in with him.
During the investigation, Kessler told police Overholts had left, but police later located her car and discovered her blood inside it. Her same blood was also found on a pair of shoes in Kessler's home, the interim chief said.
The investigation into Overholts' death started when a fisherman discovered a human leg in McKay Bay. Additional body parts were later found in the bay.
The medical examiner ruled the case as a homicide, but police said the cause of death is unknown.
The investigation is still ongoing.
