The General McLane School Board will gather for their regular monthly meeting this evening.

Members and Superintendent Matthew Lane are expected to enter executive session during the meeting to discuss the controversial online comments made be a General McLane teacher over the weekend.  Parents and community members wishing to comment may have to do so in executive session as well if they plan to name the teacher.

The high school faculty member removed the post Sunday morning, but has been off the job since the comment and response to it went viral.

The post was a comment on a KDKA news story on our Erie News Now website.  It was about an Allegheny County employee who stated he would rather lose his job than get vaccinated.  The comment expressed frustration with workers who refuse to get COVID-19 vaccines and put others at risk.  The post went on to suggest that the GOP just shoot people of that ilk.

General McLane issued a public written statement over the weekend saying they were investigating the alleged inappropriate comments.  As of today the district issued the following updated statement.

“The opinions expressed recently on social media by a teacher do not represent those of the district, nor do we condone that type of language, figurative or literal, in any circumstances. The district cannot legally share actions or consequences regarding personnel decisions; however, appropriate action will be taken to meet the needs of the investigation."
