Three men - David Kacprowicz, Dario Ciprianni and Stephen Gutting - founded Historic Square Agency, an insurance company in Erie, more than 30 years ago.

Whether it's over the phone or in person, the staff helps new clients with all their insurance needs and provides service to generations of family members who are longtime clients.

"We are highly involved from cradle to grave," said Mark Kacprowicz, who learned the business from his dad David. "What I mean by that is the initial meeting helping the client understand and identify insurance needs and solutions."

The business started in the City of Erie in 1986. About 10 years later, the agency moved into a building in Millcreek Township off W. 26th St. and has been there ever since.

While David and Dario are now retired, Steve remains a partner alongside Mark, Gary Borowy and Ted Grassi III.

"I actually came here as an intern," said Ted. "Throughout that senior year of school, [I] thought, 'Hey, maybe I want to give this a shot.'"

20 years later, Ted said personal touch is a key to the business.

"There are a lot of agencies locally - a lot of competition, not just locally but nationally," said Ted. "What we try to do is differentiate ourselves in providing personal relationships, personal touch."

Historic Square Agency provides personalized insurance including auto and homeowners'.

"We do life insurance," said Mark. "We help families address family need and business owners identify or help them secure life insurance to protect the business moving forward."

The agency welcomes new clients, as well as many longtime clients and their family members.

"We're starting to see perpetuation from one generation to the next," said Mark.

That's as generations within the business pass down insurance knowledge and advice to help others.
