Your shovel might have snapped, or gotten lost in the feet of snow we had on Martin Luther King Jr. Day. It’s not good news if you're the primary snow remover in your home.

Erie News Now visited Kraus Department Store over on Parade Street days after the big storm. They said they sold hundreds of shovels to people who broke or misplaced theirs. Now days away from another snow event, they say they're fully stocked and will be open no matter what the weather is.

Store manager Owen Nowosielski tells me that people were calling their store saying the big box retailers were all out of shovels, but he says not to worry because their stock is just right.

“We'll sell a ton of shovels again.  Everyone pretty much caught up with the shovels they needed last time but anyone who hasn't bought them. We've been selling 50-60 shovels a week so I anticipate we'll sell all of them,” Nowosielski says.

“Is it true?” one customer asks about the snow fall we’re expecting. +

That's the question folks in Erie are asking themselves when they hear the forecast call for 8-12 inches of snow throughout the next few days.  After the last big snow event, Kraus’ say they sold hundreds of shovels.  Now with another foot expected, Nowosielski says they think they'll sell hundreds more.

“We have at least 100 [shovels]  now and Thursday and Friday our order comes in so we already have more coming so I'm not concerned about it at all we have tons of shovels,” says Nowosielski.

If you're looking for more heavy duty snow removal, that might be harder to come by. In our area, trying to find a snow blower can be nearly impossible.  Nowosielski says after the big storm a few weeks ago, they sold all but one of their snow blowers.

“To find snow blowers when we had that last snowstorm we already sold three in a day so we have one left,” says Nowosielski. “We already had six people call and ask if we had snow blowers.”

The best advice Nowosielski has is shop sooner rather than later for your snow supplies.
