City of Erie police are investigating an incident that sent a teenager to the hospital with a gunshot wound.

It happened just before 11 p.m. Monday along E. 6th St. between Perry St. and East Ave.

A male juvenile was shot when a handgun accidentally discharged, according to police. The bullet hit him in the chest.

He is in the hospital with what police said is a non-life-threatening gunshot wound.

There are no specifics yet on how the gun went off or who pulled the trigger.

Detectives have been working the case through the overnight hours.

There is no word if any charges will be filed.
