People experiencing a housing crisis often struggle to find access to health care.

However, Community Health Net is dedicated helping those in need.

The organization is hoping to get the word out about its Health Care for the Homeless Program.

Those experiencing homelessness or who are living in shelters, and people released from prison with nowhere to live, can receive free access to health care services.

"Anybody who is in an unstable living situation is welcome here,” said Health Care for the Homeless program coordinator Sherrai Holland.  “We do not turn anybody away.  We are meant to welcome people, no matter what situation you're in."

Those who qualify can receive primary care, prescription assistance, and mental health referrals.

The goal of the program is to remove the barriers that prevent people with unstable living conditions from receiving the proper care that they need.

"We're trying to disburse that stereotype, you know, that they're lazy or that they just don't want to do it,” said Health Care for the Homeless nurse case manager Alison Davis.  “It's not like that.  We've had people that come in who have master degrees.”
