After celebrating the Mass of the Last Supper on Holy Thursday, Catholic churches in the Diocese Of Erie take the Eucharist out of its normal place in the church tabernacle, and place it in what they call an altar of repose, where it stays overnight.

Churches across Northwest Pennsylvania were filled with visitors to these altars throughout the evening.

Good Friday is the only day of the year when Catholic churches do not celebrate Mass, although most churches will hold services in the afternoon to listen to the Gospel of the passion of Christ, and to venerate the cross, which means individuals take a moment to bow before or touch the cross.

Saint Peter Cathedral will host its Good Friday service at 2:00 pm.
