Erie County High School students worked on driving skills ahead of prom
Risks of underage drinking behind the wheel and crashes spike significantly during prom season.
And just as that special day creeps up Penndot teamed up with the northwest regional highway safety network, and area police to host a teen driver competition for Erie County High School students.
The competition challenged the teens to demonstrate their skills and knowledge through a written test, and a slow-drive obstacle course.
There were more than bragging rights on the line for these kids, the top three finishers take home prizes, including 500-bucks for the big winner.
Most importantly they learned how to stay safe on the road going into prom.
One of the winners Abigail Slaughter says she'll be going to prom with a group of friends responsibly.
"We're all going together so we're not gonna be drinking under the influence of alcohol or drugs", said high school senior Abigail Slaughter.
