It might have been a sunny day, but sadness overshadowed Edinboro as the longtime General McLane Athletic Director Robert Kennerknecht is laid to rest.

The service was held at Our Lady of The Lake Church in Edinboro. Out of respect for the family, cameras remained outside.

"He was the heart and spirit of General McLane through and through. I idolized him a lot," says Logan McFadden.

McFadden is a soccer player for General McLane. During his years of playing for the high school, Kennerknecht kept him laughing with his wittiness and unique humor. He says he's going to miss his coach dearly.

"Many times before soccer matches, we would hang out in the training room. We'd sit there and talk. Every time I tried to get him to laugh, I've kept count of how many times I got him to cry and how many times he got me to cry laughing. Just those small moments is something I'll never forget," McFadden said.

Cars filled the parking, and people gathered to attend the service. If you were an athlete or not, he cared for students just as much. His passion for his students and athletes went noticed by other athletic directors from different schools. It was noticeable when lines wrapped around the funeral home to view his body.

"You saw that back when he was an athletic trainer and certainly as a director. You saw that last night at his viewing. Kids came out. Full teams. The entire school showed representation, and that just speaks what kind of guy Rob was," said Jason Hoffman.

Months before, a GoFundMe was set up to make his home wheelchair accessible. All proceeds will be donated to his children's college fund.
