A ruling on the manner of death in a fatal Erie shooting case is pending further investigation, according to Erie County Coroner Lyell Cook on Friday.

Officers were called to the 1800 block of W. 8th St. between Delaware Ave. and Kahkwa Blvd. around 10:15 p.m. Thursday.

Police arrived to find a 26-year-old man who was shot and had died.

An autopsy showed the cause of death was a gunshot wound to the head. Further investigation is needed to determine the manner of death, Cook told Erie News Now on Friday.

The victim's name has not yet been released.

A 21-year-old woman was also shot. She was treated for a bullet wound to the hand, questioned by detectives overnight and then released.

Police told Erie News Now they have recovered the weapon they believe was involved.
