Pain At the Pump Increases to $4.37 For National Average, $4.49 In Erie
Prices at the gas pumps are unrelenting, rising yet again overnight, wreaking havoc for some local drivers.
Meanwhile, President Biden said his administration is tackling inflation to help lower costs for American families.
The president blamed the pandemic and Vladimir Putin’s war in Ukraine for soaring inflation.
Gas Prices Reached A New Record Overnight, According To Triple- A. They now average $4.37 for a gallon of regular gas.
Here in Erie, the average price for a gallon is about $4.49, causing local drivers to reconsider every mile they drive.
“I don’t go anywhere,” Diane Plyler said. “I go to work, and I go home.”
It costed Plyler $22 to put five gallons in her vehicle, something she does every few days, driving to and from work.
“It still adds up,” Plyler said.
She is certainly not alone, feeling the pain at the gas pump.
“I’ve been pinching pennies like everyone else,” Tiffany Miczikus told Erie News Now.
She has been relying on public transportation a lot more, as filling up her tank is costing a pretty penny.
“Putting 10 or 5 dollars in here and there just really doesn’t go very far,” Miczikus said.
To address this nationwide issue, President Biden announced no new policies, but talked about the possible release of oil from the strategic petroleum reserve.
Inflation is quickly becoming a top issue across the nation, but it is an issue local drivers hope is resolved soon, or else they will be suffering the consequences.
“I wouldn’t be able to go to work,” Miczikus said.
Plyler said the prices keep going higher and it will put more of a strain on her family.
“We have to buy it (gas) to get places, to get food, to feed our kids, so I don’t know what’s going to happen,” she said.
