United Way Prepares to Celebrate Milestone for Imagination Library Program
Erie News Now is teaming up with the United Way of Erie County as it nears a major milestone with the Imagination Library program.
Many are already taking advantage of it.
Just like any one year old, Willa doesn't like to sit still for long. She's wild, and she's the best thing in the world.
For her mom Ellen Kehl, she fits in a book or two whenever she can.
"We read actually throughout the day," said Kehl. "At bedtime, it just doesn't fit. It's bath time, and she's ready to go, so we just pick up books throughout the day."
There's been lots of smiles, thanks to the United Way of Erie County's Imagination Library, which provides a free book to kids every month until they are 5 years old.
Willa has been receiving books like these since she was born.
The United Way of Erie County fully funds the program.
To date, it has sent out more than 900,000 free books. Organizers hope to hit the million mark early next year.
For Kehl, it's a chance to pass down her love of reading to the next generation.
