A motorcyclist is dead, and another driver has been arrested for DUI following a crash in Venango Township, Crawford County Thursday afternoon, according to Pennsylvania State Police.

It happened on Plank Rd. at the intersection with Irish Rd. in Venango Township just after 4:30 p.m.

A Dodge truck - driven by David Smith, 42, of Waterford - was traveling north on Plank Rd. and attempting to turn left onto Irish Rd. when a southbound motorcycle was approaching the intersection, according to troopers.

Smith started turning onto Irish Rd. in front of the Harley-Davidson motorcycle, which then hit the truck head-on on the front driver's side, State Police said.

The motorcyclist - identified as Steven Risjan, 29, of Meadville - was thrown from the motorcycle. He was taken to UPMC Hamot by medical helicopter but suffered fatal injuries, according to investigators.

Smith refused medical treatment for a minor hand injury and was arrested for DUI, troopers said.

Both vehicles were towed to State Police in Meadville. State Police said the investigation is ongoing.
