For most of his adult life, Charles "Chuck" Lehr has served in the Military.

He joined the U.S. Navy in 1966 and served for four years.

In 1984, he went on reserve duty, then returned to active duty in 1990.

He told Erie News Now, "I can honestly say, I served, when people were against the Vietnam War and when I returned, I heard about it."

He was front and center for the Wall That Heals visit to Erie.

He spent many hours volunteering and participated in the Reading of the Names Ceremony.

He is not the only member of his family who has served.

"When I was in Vietnam, I had a brother in Germany and another brother in Japan, he told Erie News Now. My brother in Germany, had it a lot worse than I did. He transferred the fallen soldiers back to the United States."

Lehr retired in 2006 from active duty.

He remains a mainstay at local events for Navy Veterans.
