As temperatures rise, so will the electric bill.

According to Affordable Furnace and Air Conditioning owner Damon Pierce, there are ways to keep the cost of staying cool to a minimum. He says that the number one way to keep the price down is to have your AC unit maintenance done in the spring rather than the fall.

"It's always good to have you unit checked at the beginning of the season," said Damon. "Once those coils get dirty that's what makes your electric bill go up and as we know electricity costs just went up 35%."

Proper care is another way to limit expenses. Damon recommends putting out mothballs or planting marigolds to keep small animals from living in the air conditioner.

Also, he said to avoid using covers on your unit in the winter. They trap moisture inside and will wear out the coils faster.
