Certified Nursing Assistants, better known as CNAs, at the Pennsylvania Soldiers' and Sailors' Home in Erie were recognized on Wednesday for the care they provide to veterans and their spouses.

The honor comes during National Nursing Assistants Week.

There are about 70 CNAs at the Soldiers' and Sailors' Home who got together to celebrate with cupcakes.

"I am proud to serve these veterans," said Gina Malito. "They helped our country stay safe, and we should take care of and have respect for them for what they have given up for us."

CNAs routinely take vitals, check blood pressure and oxygen levels, give baths and assist with anything the veterans may need.
