MAYVILLE – The Chautauqua County Legislature has voted to move forward with extending the South Chautauqua Lake Sewer District.

The infrastructure project will now include parts of the hamlet of Stow south to the border of the North Chautauqua Lake Sewer District in the town of Chautauqua.

In total, the improvements cost $24 million with lawmakers establishing a capital account for construction.

Work could get underway next spring, which comes as a concern to some nearby property owners who claim officials did not communicate well with residents.

“I actually came home from vacation, and did not even know about this, and very quickly had to do some research on this,” explained resident Melissa Bow. “There is a lot of people, who if their actual tax parcel ID number was not listed on the short notice in the mail, they don’t even realize at this point that they are included.”

The project aims to connect 500 parcels of land, 350 of which are developed properties.

Construction is anticipated to be completed by winter 2026.
