The first Erie Otters player selected in the 2022 NHL Draft is headed to Dallas. The Stars selected defenseman Christian Kyrou with the 50 overall pick in round two.

Kyrou enjoyed a breakout season in his first full year in the Ontario Hockey League. He had 18 goals and 60 points for the Otters.

"I'm very excited for Christian," said BJ Adams, Erie Otters' head coach. "He put in a lot of hard work on-and-off the ice over the past couple of years and it paid off for him."

Kyrou finished the season top three in scoring among all OHL defensemen.

"Christian has come so far, and continues to grow both as a player and person," said Dave Brown, Erie Otters' general manager. "We are thrilled and ecstatic to share in this moment with Christian and his family."

The selection of Kyrou means the Erie Otters have now had at least one player selected in 21 drafts from 1997-2022. Kyrou becomes the second player in Otters history to be selected by Dallas. he joins Kue Gazdic who was selected 172 overall in 2007.
