After two years of construction, drivers can now use the new Route 18 bridge over Interstate 90 in Girard.
The bridge reopened to traffic Friday afternoon.
The former Route 18 bridge was demolished in September 2021 after it was hit several times by oversized vehicles.
The new bridge includes two teardrop roundabouts, which are expected to improve traffic efficiency and safety.
"With this being open, there's a big weight off our back," said John Murcavage, PennDOT. "We're hoping everyone will will be satisfied with what we've done. It'll be a plus for our township [and] the people in this area."
While the west side ramps have reopened, construction continues on the east side ramps. That work is expected to wrap up in September.
