Over $6 Million in Federal Funding is Headed to the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority
Senator Bob Casey, arrived at the Erie Metropolitan Transit Authority (EMTA) today, to announce federal funding headed to Erie public transit.
Over $6 million in federal funding from the Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act, is headed to the EMTA to support recoveries from the COVID-19 pandemic.
This funding was raised in order to help fill the gaps in operating budgets as well as maintain COVID safety precautions.
"To have this funding for such a significant transit agency here in Erie, more than $6 million is a significant investment, not just in the authority itself but obviously in the work that has to get done to keep those fares where they are, and to get people to work everyday, to be able to ride the bus or other forms of transportation to get through their day," said Senator Casey.
The EMTA is relying upon the new infrastructure law to restore and improve their transit services after economic struggles and hardships in the post-pandemic world.
Additionally, the EMTA expects to keep its base fare at $1.65 to maintain affordability and accessibility for Erie riders.
