YMCA of Corry Top Recipient of Erie Gives Day
Thanks to generous donations from the community, children at the YMCA of Corry will soon benefit from building upgrades.
On Erie Gives Day, the Corry Y received a total of $354,716 in donations, making the non-profit the top recipient of this year's event.
"It means everything," said YMCA of Corry CEO Ed O'Brien. "Our YMCA serves a community of 6,223 people. Without the philanthropic support from our donors, our YMCA couldn't exist."
The money will be used on several different projects.
A portion of the donations will be used to build a brand-new indoor playground in a room next to the YMCA's gym.
Donations will also be used to expand the organization's kitchen, which will triple in size.
Some of the funding will also help the YMCA finish replacing its roof.
"We want to thank everyone who donated, whether it was $25 to $20,000," said O'Brien. "It's a big deal for us and we really appreciate the support."
