At the Blasco Library in downtown Erie earlier tonight, both State and local police met to begin the second night of "Operation Nighthawk," which targets drivers under the influence.

This is the 20th anniversary of the initiative, and to celebrate, police across the state are engaged in the program both last night and tonight.

"What's unique about Operation Nighthawk is that after you get to training, you go right out on the road and you start practicing that training right away," says Captain Kirk Reese of the Pennsylvania State Police Troop E.

"I believe we have almost 80 officers [who are] going to hit the road tonight," Reese continued. "Last night, we stopped over 400 cars, made over 30 DUI arrests, along with several other drug arrests, and seized several other weapons out of cars, so it was a good night."

Reese says the program has been so effective that in the past 20 years, other states have copied the operation.
