Camp Sherwin in Erie County is a seasonal site that is described as "a ton of fun" for everyone.

Splashing in a pool, getting wet at the nearby splash pad and even enjoying time at the newly installed jump pillow is just some of what the YMCA's Camp Sherwin has to offer.

You don't have to be a YMCA member to attend the camp, according to Tammy Roche, vice president of YMCA of Greater Erie.

"Camp Sherwin actually used to be Camp Unilee which actually translates to 'a place for friends' and it opened in 1912," said Roche.

The land where the camp is now was gifted to the YMCA by a donor with the last name Sherwin.

Old photos can be found on the grounds. There's one even in a rental that sleeps 24 people and is often booked during the season.

High time at Camp Sherwin is Memorial Day to Labor Day.

"We have tent sites, we have RV sites full hook up sites that include water, electric and septic," said Roche. "We also have cabins that have showers and bathrooms in them, but if you want a rustic cabin, that would be just with the beds."

Ron Levy and his family travel to Camp Sherwin from the Columbus, Ohio area. He said affordability is the reason his family continues to return to the camp.

"We get a lot to do here and we don't have to spend an absolute fortune to do it," said Levy.

While people come for a day or longer, Camp Sherwin also has a kids camp all summer long.

Security is important at the camp, and an additional security box was added this year for people to check in when arriving.

"It's about creating memories and giving kids a safe place to be with friends and family to try new things to explore nature," said Roche.

The pool at Camp Sherwin is open from Memorial Day to Labor Day. Camping is available all year round.
