Millcreek Police have arrested a man on charges for Sunday's fight that ended with a shot fired inside the Millcreek Mall.

According to police, James Troop III, age 18, was arraigned Tuesday afternoon on charges including aggravated assault, conspiracy to commit aggravated assault, simple assault, recklessly endangering another person, harassment, disorderly conduct and corruption of minors.

He was taken to the Erie County Prison on $25,000 bond.

The incident started with a fight near the mall food court area just after 4 p.m. Sunday.  The fight escalated, a gun was introduced and one shot was fired.  That sent employees who work in that section of the mall running for cover.

Mall officials said one shot was fired into the ceiling. No shooting victims were found, but one person attacked in the fight suffered facial injuries and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Police took a couple of suspects who fled from the scene into custody and they recovered a gun.

"At this time, it is believed that there was an altercation between specific individuals, and nobody was struck by the shot," police said in a statement.

The investigation into the shooting is ongoing, and additional charges are expected, according to police.

Meantime police, mall security and mall officials continue to work together on the investigation.  They met on Tuesday at the mall.

Marketing Manager Karrie George said they are discussing possible changes to security but are not prepared to announce those as yet.  In fact some strategies may not be shared.

We asked George about policies regarding carrying weapons in Millcreek Mall, and about the mall banning some patrons from the complex if they don't comply with mall rules. "Mall common space, we follow the local rules." Karrie George said.  "So if you are permitted to carry, you are permitted to carry (here) as far as stores, because they are held by their companies they are able to do whatever they choose is best for them. We are private property, so while it's a public space it is private property. We do reserve the right to ask anybody who is not acting accordingly to leave and we can go to the extent of banning them, possibly for life."

George said when a person is banned from mall property, police are contacted as soon as they are spotted, and they will be charged with trespassing.
