The Erie Community celebrated the success of people recovering from addiction, while recognizing the work that still needs to be done.

Gaudenzia hosted a celebration in Perry Square, recognizing National Recovery Month.

People in recovery from addiction, and several currently being treated, shared their stories, explaining how treatment can save lives.

Leaders at Gaudenzia said addiction often carries a stigma, and events like today's show there's hope for people struggling with the condition.

"I think being able, as a provider, to offer people a section chance versus having them being incarcerated," Jason Kisielewski, Community Affairs Manager. "I think that really allows them to become productive members of society."

National Recovery Month is a nationwide effort to help people struggling with addiction. It ends September 30th.
