Millcreek Police and Second Harvest Food Bank teamed up for a two-day food collection at Walmart on West Ridge Road this weekend.

After doing their weekly shopping at Walmart, people may have purchased some extra food to donate to children in need on Sunday.
Jami Braden was one of the many people who stepped up to donate, "It's nice to help people in need and it comes back to you if you are ever in need, it will come back to you."

The food collection was aimed towards helping children in the area.

Patrolman Katrina Kuhl with Millcreek Police explained, "Things are tight right now for everyone, so we want to make sure the kids have the nutrition and to do that they need to get to school and be successful."

For two mornings, members of the Millcreek Police Department collected food and monetary donations and they said the community showed up to support.

"We've just seen people overwhelming bringing a whole cart of food out and just leaving it for us and it's just moments like that that really feel amazing", said Patrolman Kuhl.

Sunday was the second day of the collections and their goal was to fill all their trucks with as many bags of food donations as possible.

As the season of giving gets closer, Patrolman Kuhl said it's good to see people willing to step up and help their neighbors out.

"Everyone has just been fantastic, they have been extremely generous, like I said, times are tight for everyone, and we really appreciate everyone just giving a little bit that they can", said Patrolman Kuhl.

Community members agree, small acts of kindness could change someone's life. "It makes you feel good inside, it makes you feel good there's still good people still in the world", said Braden.

Millcreek Police said this is the second time they have done a food collection and hope to hold another around the holiday season.
