A local trucker is being recognized as a hero for saving a dog abandoned at a truck stop.

Rich Difronzo known as Fonzi, works for Barnhart Trucking in North East. Several months ago, he found a dog tied to a tree at a truck stop, so he cut it loose, took in in, and cared for it for three months.

On Monday, the company recognized Difronzo for his effort giving him a special decal to keep in his truck.

"I pulled into a truck stop in Jersey, there was dog tied to a tree," said Difronzo. "I was there for a little while and kept asking people who's dog it was cause no one was going near it, the people inside said someone tried to sell it on Saturday cause they didn't know it was tied to the tree out there so I cut it off and took it home."

The dog, who Difronzo named Roxy-Lynn, now lives with Difronzo's friend in Kentucky.
