Being involved in local organizations has been a part of the fabric of so many communities for decades.

One organization that started in Erie in 1916, is in the business of helping others.

From outdoor projects, to indoor outreach at soup kitchens, to schools members of the Kiwanis Club of Erie have great reach.

"Kiwanis is an overall club that takes anyone from anywhere that wants to give back to the community," said Adam Trott. "It's not church based or company based its an umbrella community service club that anyone can join into."

Kiwanis board member Adam Trott and Club Secretary Cathy Symanski have been members for more than 20 years.

Cathy has even served on the international level helping college students in the Kiwanis Circle K program and fostering Kiwanis membership around the world.

"I got to work with countries that were just unreal, and I worked with them on how to grow their membership," said Symanski.

The Erie Chapter is a local footprint under Kiwanis International.

The Kiwanis Club of Erie is currently working with Community Shelter Services to help build tiny homes for the homeless population in Erie.

But the reach spans all ages. There are efforts spent helping with youth basketball, to financial backing, and volunteers towards the Pennsylvania State Police Camp Cadet Program.

Kiwanis fundraisers during the year go right back into the local community.

"There's so many opportunities to make a difference in the Erie community," said Symanski.

And Kiwanis club members hope you join them to continue the good Samaritan work. For more information on the Kiwanis Club, visit their website
