Erie Metro Hall of Famer Jack Tufts Passes Away
A contributor to Erie sports for more than five decades, Erie News Now has learned Jack Tufts has died.
Tufts was inducted into the Metro Erie Chapter of the Pennsylvania Sports Hall of Fame in 2018.
Tufts played four years of varsity baseball at Academy High School.
After high school, Tufts went on to coach baseball, golf and basketball. Tufts coached baseball for nine seasons at Mercyhurst Prep. He was also the golf coach for six seasons with the Lakers.
Tufts coached the Eastside American Legion baseball team for twelve seasons. His team brought home the championship on five occasions.
Tufts became an assistant coach for Cathedral Prep basketball from 2004-2008. He also served as an assistant for the Ramblers baseball team from 2008-2010.
In 1995, Tufts took over as manager of the J.C. Martin Golf Course. He went on to triple junior membership over his first four years as manager, according to his induction biography on the Metro Hall of Fame website.
Tufts was 69 years old.
