City of Erie's Police Department Looking to Recruit New Officers
The City of Erie's Police Department is encouraging residents to protect and serve by applying to become a City of Erie police officer.
The Erie Police Department (EPD) has been around for nearly 170, and is committed to diversity. In 1904, EPD hired its first African American officer, and they hired Pennsylvania's first female officer in 1916.
Those interested in applying must meet the following requirements (qualifications are set by the City of Erie Civil Service Commission):
- Be between the ages of 21 and 65.
- Possess a high school diploma or GED equivalency
- Be Act 120-certified at the time of hire
- Pass the Northwest PA Regional Police Testing Consortium written and physical agility tests by date of hire
- Agree to move within a 15-mile radius of the City of Erie Municipal Building, 626 State St. Erie, PA 16501
- Be a citizen of the United States
- Have good moral character as determined by background check, psychological testing, and other reviews
- Possess a current and valid driver’s license
- Be free from convictions of disqualifying criminal offenses

Applications will be accepted from April 3, 2023 to June 30, 2023, and can be filled out online. Applications open on April 3rd, and there is an $80 application fee.
Applicants will have to pass an agility test as well as a written test in August.
