Millcreek Township Residents Looking to Save Historic Schoolhouse
When Millcreek supervisors meet this week, they're expected to hear from township residents looking to save a part of local history.
Citizens in support of saving what they say is an historic schoolhouse on West 8th Street are expected to turn out at the township building Tuesday evening at 5:00 p.m.
The issue is this yellow brick building near Presque Isle, that most recently housed the Grasshopper clothing store. It's one of the properties recently purchased by the township to promote new development.
Local historians say the school was built by Algeria horse farm owner William Scott, as a place to educate the children of his workers.
They want to see it preserved and its history integrated into the Presque Isle Gateway Plan.
