Local Leaders Address EMS, Fire Crises
EMS workers, politicians, and others came together on Tuesday night to see if they could find solutions to fix what local leaders are calling crises in the Tri-County area. Lack of staffing and not being reimbursed properly were two of the major concerns. Dr. Aaron Rhone, Pennsylvania Bureau Director for EMS spoke at the seminar and both Democrat and Republican politicians both agreed that these issues transcend party lines.
"Not one time in the history of Erie County or probably anywhere else have we dialed 911 and asked if the person was a Democrat or a Republican, these issues resonate with people," said Erie County Executive Brenton Davis.
"This can has been kicked down the road and I have been very clear that the intentions of my administration were to address problems head on," said Davis.
"It is important that we work together more, we have a lot of different fire departments throughout Erie County, some are paid, some are not paid, some are volunteers, we have to find a way where we can work together and keep everybody safe," said Erie Mayor Joe Schember.
Lawrence Park Fire Chief Joe Crotty said he wants to see more from the city of Erie. "The elephant in the room is that the first domino that falls that causes stress to our citizens and the whole county begins in the city of Erie," Crotty said.
