Erie Police are investigating a homicide after a young man was shot and killed inside a car in east Erie Saturday morning.

Officers responded to the 800 block of East 21st Street, near the intersection with Wayne Street about 3:30 a.m. after neighbors reported hearing multiple gun shots.

Erie Police Chief Dan Spizarny told Erie News Now that officers arrived to find a 21-year-old male gun shot victim in a car.  He was pronounced dead at the scene of the crime.

The chief confirmed that police are treating the shooting incident as a homicide. They have not released the name of the victim.

Investigators are working to identify a suspect or suspects.

No word yet on whether there were witnesses to the crime, or if any surveillance video from the neighborhood may help lead to an arrest in the deadly shooting.
