High Winds Damage North Springfield Home
With 70 mile wind gusts, a home in North Springfield took a damaging hit from a nearby tree. Thankfully, the resident of the home was in a different section of the house when the tree came down.
"Yeah, there's some pretty extensive damage to this home, I think I this is the best worst case-scenario. Nobody got hurt. Nobody got killed. You know, unfortunately there's still a missing cat," Erie County Executive Brenton Davis said.
Davis explained that the combination of high winds and bad roots led to the destruction.
"If you look at this tree behind me, you can see that the roots are rotted. A lot of times there are damages to trees you can't see below the ground. This particular tree — I mean the root system failed and this entire tree destroyed this home next door," Davis said.
Davis noted that when there are high winds, being cautious and aware are essential.
"The safety tips for those in the residents in the region just to remember, high winds cause tree damage and wires to come down, so you don't know whether that's a high power electricity line or cable line. The big thing is if you see big cables down don't run over them. Don't touch them. You know, be aware of your surroundings . . . even the smallest branch can cause death or serious injury," Davis said.
