Adam Chiocco is this month's winner of the Northwest Pennsylvania C.L.A.S.S. Act Award & Scholarship.

A $1,000 scholarship given to a nominated student each month across Warren, Crawford and Erie counties.

Adam is a senior at Fairview High School. Our Eva Mastromatteo surprised him live on air while he was in his French class.

The reveal happened on Tuesday, because Adam, his French teacher, Mr. Hall, and more than a dozen classmates left for France on Wednesday.

It's a trip they have been fundraising for all school year. Adam is involved in several extra-curricular activities, and also makes academics and activism a priority.

"I think its really important to be active," said Adam. "If you cant do it while you're young it sets the precedent for the rest of your life."

"This is where out teachers do our very best, and where our students shine," said Dr. Erik Kincaid, Superintendent of Fairview School Dist. "And that in the classroom."

Monthly winners will also have a chance to win $5,000 at the end of the year.

The C.L.A.S.S. Act Award is given through the Northwest Tri-county Intermediate, and sponsored by several local businesses including Lilly Broadcasting.
