Another Friday, another fish dinner for Todd Davis at All Saints Parish in Waterford.
"I have no problem eating fish for Jesus," he said with a laugh.
With a healthy sense of humor and a healthy appetite, he's the type of customer the parish relies upon.
"We came out a few weeks ago in a snow storm, a big snowstorm," he said. "It was not good and we came out anyway, but now, the days are longer, and more friends are here and the place is full and the fish is fantastic."
But in the years since the pandemic, customers like Davis have become less common.
Michael Twaroski has organized the dinners for years, and he's seen a drop in attendance.
"We are down," he said. "We only had one really good week so far. Of course, we had a couple weeks with bad weather, so that keeps us down, and I thought we would have a good turnout tonight, but it's been slow. It's been steady though, I can't complain."
He loves seeing each customer.
Not only is it a chance to see friends, it's a chance to make money, cash his parish needs for day-to-day expenses.
"It goes into upkeep," he said. "We have to get a new heating system. We're going to redo the parking lot. It hasn't been redone since the original was laid."
With Holy Week on the horizon, this year's fish frys are in the books.
A good year, with hope for stronger years ahead.
