The countdown is on to April 8, 2024 when Erie will be in the path of totality and will see a total solar eclipse. Erie News Now Chief Meteorologist John Stehlin explains the experience of seeing one.

"You are going to be able to see the full total eclipse and there is a path only about a hundred miles wide that goes across the United States into Canada so we are very lucky here in Erie to see it," Stehlin said.

He said seeing an eclipse is one thing but a total solar eclipse is a whole different experience. "Even last year it got very dark and silent, it was very mesmerizing and for some people it is a spiritual experience where people realize we are so tiny and there is so much more going on around us in space," he said.
