Erie County Council Votes to Move Veterans Affairs
On Tuesday night, Erie County Council voted to move the Veterans Affairs Office from the Erie County Courthouse to the Erie Intermodal Transportation Center. They also passed American Rescue Plan gap funding after previously tabling it.
Moving the VA Office will cost $24 thousand dollars and then $14 thousand dollars a year for rent and operating expenses. County Council Chairman Brian Shank, who voted "yes," said the move will better serve Erie County veterans, while Councilman Andre Horton, who voted against the move said while he appreciates veterans keeping a balanced budget is important.
Joe Benacci, Director of Veterans Affairs, said, "as the director, I will do anything I can to help out a veteran and hopefully we can carry it forward into the future and make our department something for other counties to follow."
